Description |
Odawara was the last station before the travelers from Edo took on the Hakone pass, the
worst part on the road to Kyoto. This assured it a flourishing business. Here, a daimyo's procession is being carried across the River Sakawa, parts of it in both margins and a litter being right
in the middle of the ford. Beyond we see rice fields and the roofs of a village. In the distance rounded hills with, at their feet, Odawara Castle, and behind them distant mountains. |
