play, Kanadehon Chushingura or The Treasure of Loyal
Retainers (click here
for more information). The image illustrates act IV, namely
the famous scene where Enya Hangan (above, played by Bando Mitsugoro III)
fulfills the shogunate order and commits ritual suicide
assisted by Oboshi Yuranosuke (below, played by Onoe Kikugoro III). |
