Man-Pai /Chikanobu: Writing on Cherry Tree

The print depicts an episode from the Tale of Heike, about the confrontation of the two powerful warrior families of the 11th century, the Taira and the Minamoto. It shows a retainer, probably Mishima, writing a message from Yoshitsune, the leader of the Minamoto,  on a cherry tree, so that Kumagai can read it.
