The
series is comprises thirty six female portraits, showing women of
different social backgrounds (from geishas to court ladies)
dressed in modern or traditional ways. It is a very important transition
series, with element inherited from Kunichika
and the Utagawa school of traditional Ukiyo-e prints, but also
with a modern sensibility, that introduces the new patterns of female
beauty that will define the Shin Hanga movement. |
