Man-Pai / Yoshitoshi: Uesugi Kenshin

Uesugi Terutora Nyudo Kenshin was one of the greatest war lords of Japan 16th century, a colorful character that combined the passion for war with the love for arts and culture, the sense of justice with the taste for life. He faced Oda Nobunaga (one of the three unifiers), whom he defeated just before dying, probably due the excesses he made.

Legend tells that Oda Nobunaga exulted when told about his death, saying that it assures his victory and total domination of Japan. Uesugi Kenshin was a loved and respected figure, and the print shows him dancing around a bon fire.  Click here to obtain further information on Uesugi Kenshin.
