This print
stands well apart from the historical and legendary themes that make the
bulk of this series. It presents a couple of peasants enjoying the end
of a summer day with their small child (the top of the child shaved head
can be seen at her left side). The poem at the top cartouche says
"Pleasure is this, to lie cool under the moonflower bower, the man
in his undershirt, the woman in her slip". |
