Man-Pai / Kunichika: Kawarasaki Gonjuro I

An interesting series made in collaboration by two great masters of the third quarter of the XIX century, Kunichika and Kunisada II. Kunichika is responsible for the portrait of geisha Kohana Saruwaka-machi, while Kunisada II painted actor Kawarasaki Gonjuro I, here in the role of Kozaru Shichinosuke. The title of the series is a play with the word Genji, which can mean modern as well as being a reference to the Tale of Genji (Genji Monogatari), the great Japanese novel.
