An
interesting
series made in collaboration by two great masters of the third quarter
of the XIX century, Kunichika and Kunisada II. Kunichika is responsible
for the portrait of geisha Karu
de Yanigabashi,
while Kunisada II painted actor Sawamura
Tossho II,
here in the role of Hayano
Kampei.
The title of the series is a play with the word Genji, which can mean
modern as well as being a reference to the Tale of Genji (Genji
Monogatari), the great Japanese novel. |
