Hiroshige: Mitsuke - Gyosho Tokaido (1840s)

Mitsuke station was known because the travelers from Kyoto could get here the first glimpse of Mount Fuji. Here the Tokaido was crossed by the Tenryu river, forcing travelers to use the ferry-boats. (click here to see another print of the same spot, by Kunichika).
