Hiroshige: Oomori - Sketches

A raised road leads to a village, in the center of the image. In the foreground a mass of water with reeds with, to the left, two small boats. In the distance, to the right, the sails of three big boats and some fishing structures. In the center. beyond the village tree clad hills, probably from an island.

The repetitive succession of reeds in the foreground creates a rhythmic effect against the line leading of the road leading to the village. Compare with a print from the series "One Hundred Views of Famous Places in Edo (click here).
