| Japanese Woodblock Prints, or Ukuyo-e,
were generally published in series depicting a common subject. The
series generally have a coherent visual organization. In particular, the
title of the series and/or the title of the print are usually presented
in a similar cartouche throughout the series, which makes identification
easier. Series are of very different sizes, ranging from a few print to
more than one hundred. Below are presented some of the great series of
Japanese Woodblock Prints, with some information. Click on the title to
go to the series, or on the artist's name to read a short biography. |
