Man-Pai / Genjimon

The Tale of Genji (Genji Monogatari), one of the masterpieces of Japanese and world literature, is novel written in the XI century  about the life of Genji. It become the subject and the inspiration of several print series.

The Genjimon (or Genji crest ) is a geometric symbol identifying each of the 54 chapters of the story, that generally  appears in one of the top corners of the prints with this subject. It is thus a precious aid in the identification of those prints. Click here to see some examples from real prints. Click here to get additional information on Genjimon.
